BECHEREL, A TYPICAL SMALL VILLAGE OF BRITTANY

Becherel, a market town

Built on one of the highest point between two rivers, the Rance and the Vilaine, Becherel was a strategic military fortress since the Middle Age. The city will develop thanks to its textile industry. The city become wealthy by the sales of flax and hemp fiber which were used for linen and canvas and welcome the houses of rich merchants. Its linen were famous in all Northen Europe.

For 30 years, bookshops, bookbinder and art craft creators have been giving life to the old city. Many activities and events about literature and reading are organized throughout the year including a monthly book market on the main square of the town.
You can enjoy the view on the countryside offered by the path of the old rampart or have a walk through the largest garden of Brittany at the Casttle of Caradeuc which is nicknamed “The Versailles of Brittany”.
The city invites you out of time, to chill in front of old books and art craft display, to discover its rural and architectural heritage and find out the pleasure of reading.
